Coaching Tip with Steve Darmody – Cover that Ball

Coaching Special – A free 15-minute video check, valid until Friday 28 February 2025. Limit of one per person.

A common instinct is to keep the head too far behind the ball, which can lead to contact and directional issues, particularly with irons.

For a more consistent strike, focus on keeping the head more with the ball during both the backswing and downswing.

The images below illustrate the difference:

  • The top images show a more neutral head position, promoting better control and accuracy.
  • The bottom images show the head positioned too far behind the ball, which can cause inconsistencies in contact and direction.

Maintaining a balanced head position throughout the swing can significantly improve ball-striking and overall performance.
