Coaching Tip with Steve Darmody – A Great Backswing Body Motion

A great setup helps to create the perfect backswing body motion.

Drill:

  • Narrow the stance a little and tilt the left hip towards the target
  • Turn around this shape to set the best backswing position

This drill encourages a proper weight shift and balance, essential for an optimal backswing. By tilting the left hip towards the target, you create a stable base, allowing your upper body to turn more freely and naturally. This adjustment leads to a more controlled and powerful backswing, enhancing your overall swing mechanics.

Examples of these differences can be seen below.

The pictures on the left, before tilting the hip, show a less effective setup compared to the images on the right, which demonstrate a much better setup and backswing turn.
