The Men’s Open Pennant Team secured a 5 to 2 win over Surfers Paradise last Sunday, finishing second on the table. The team will now play Royal Pines in the semi-final at Links Hope Island on Sunday 17 March 2024.
The team travelled to Coolangatta Tweed for a very early start on Sunday morning in a do-or-die match against Surfers Paradise. A halved match would see us through, but a win was the aim.
The team this week was: Alfie Ward, Taylor Barr, Daniel Lai, Sasha Cooper, Paul Blake, Paul Smerdon and Junta Takagi.
As was to be expected, the match was very tight and four of the matches were decided on the 18th hole. It was incredibly nerve-racking and despite an early loss with Junta going down 3 & 2, Paul S. successfully halved his match and Paul B. won 1 up. Daniel was in control of his game and won superbly on the 17th hole, 2 & 1. Meanwhile, Sasha was working through a match that went one way then the other, but successfully secured a win on the 18th hole, 1 up. Taylor was successful in fighting back in his match and with a fabulous shot into the 18th hole, secured a squared match. Meanwhile, Alfie played well and stayed perfectly in control, winning his match 4 & 2.
Any support this Sunday at Links Hope Island for the semi-final would be most welcome.
The first tee off is at 6:12am, for further information please contact Nick Mullings on 0418 957 704.
