The Men’s Open Pennant Team travelled to Southport Golf Club again last Sunday to play Coolangatta Tweed for the fourth round of the competition.
This week’s team was: Alfie Ward, Taylor Barr, Ethan Leighton, Daniel Lai, Sasha Cooper, Paul Smerdon, and Dylan Stoner.
Unfortunately, it was not a good day at the office, Sanctuary Cove lost the match to Coolangatta Tweed 4 to 3. Although we were in the match for the first 9 holes, Coolangatta Tweed pulled ahead in the first three matches with Dylan, Paul and Sasha losing on the back 9.
Daniel played well in his first game winning 3 & 1 and securing a win on the 17th, Ethan once again stayed in control winning 1 up on the 18th, and Alfie fought off a spirited fightback to claim a good win 3 & 2. Meanwhile, Taylor was fighting back well and there was always a chance of a square on the 18th hole until his opponent sunk a 10m putt across the green on the 17th hole to win that game and the match for Coolangatta Tweed.
We remain in 2nd place and need to beat Surfers Paradise or square the match this Sunday to qualify for the semi-final. It will be a tense day after an early start.
