All Abilities Golf Day

Sunday 17 September saw Club Members tee off for our All Abilities Golf Day. Working alongside Empower Golf, the Club hosted over 50 men and ladies for a come and try day. Participants had varying disabilities ranging from mental, physical and blindness. The day started off with a golf clinic hosted on The Pines driving range for an hour with the players getting tips and tricks to help improve their game. Once that concluded, many players went out to play 18-holes on The Palms golf course before a second clinic commenced. Players then played 9-holes on The Palms golf course to round off a wonderful Sunday. The Club was proud to host the event and help keep growing the game of golf to all ages and abilities. The Pines Course Renovation Program

The Pines greens have established well since being done 2 years ago and the renovation program for them this year will be different from 2022. Some solid thatch accumulation has occurred over the past 12 months and will need to be removed from the greens to help prevent disease this upcoming summer. As for the other surfaces, (tees, fairways and aprons) the same process as last year will apply.

Greens

  • Scarified at -3mm in two directions (matt and thatch removal)
  • Verti-Cut at -1mm in two directions (matt and thatch removal)
  • Aeration with 10mm hollow tines (provides a corridor for oxygen in the root zone)
  • Soil amendments applied (helps to correct any shortfalls in the greens soil profile as per soil tests)
  • Heavily top dressed with amended sand (helps to even out any imperfections with the playing surface)
  • Fertilised with Turf Starter at 3kg/100m2. This helps with turf recovery and vigour

The expected recovery time is 4 – 6 weeks.

Tees

  • Scarified at -20mm in two directions (matt and thatch removal)
  • Aeration with 12mm hollow tines (provides a corridor for oxygen in the root zone and removes thatch)
  • Heavily top dressed with amended sand (helps to even out any imperfections with the playing surface)
  • Fertilised with Turf Starter at 3kg/100m2. This helps with turf recovery and vigour

The expected recovery time is 4 – 6 weeks.

Fairways

  • Scarified at -10mm in two directions (matt and thatch removal)
  • Aeration with 12mm hollow tines (provides a corridor for oxygen in the root zone and removes thatch)
  • Top dressed with amended sand at 5-7mm (helps to even out any imperfections with the playing surface)
  • Fertilised with Turf Starter at 3kg/100m2. This helps with turf recovery and vigour
